Dolls are toys that are made to look like a real human. Especially for little girls, Dolls seem to be among children’s favorite toy collection, whether made of fabric, plastic, or wood. In ancient times dolls were made of clay, wood, even fur. Dolls made of painted wood and clay or beads hair were found in graves of the ancient Egyptian culture.
Earthen dolls were also found in burial sites of children in ancient Greek and Roman cultures. Through time dolls were made of different materials. Papier-mache, wax, stuffed fabric, and porcelain. In the beginning of the 19th century porcelain became a popular material for dollmaking. During the ‘50s vinyl that allows doll makers to implant hair into the doll’s head became popular. Eventhough modern dolls are commercially made with modern supplies in the present time, the simple rag doll with hair made of wool has not lost its appeal and is still loved by children.
To a little girl, a doll becomes a friend. The doll may even have a name. She will dress the doll up, cuddle it, talk to it, as if it were a real person. It is common for children to have such imagination. But, collecting dolls is not only a privilege for kids. Grownups also enjoy collecting dolls especially those that are artistically made.
Just as real humans, dolls are also dressed to look their best. From clothes to shoes, they are often as fashionable as their owners. The Barbie doll is one example of how a commercially manufactured doll can look chic and set up certain fashion themes and trends (the doll even stars in her own animated movies). The owner will make sure that the doll keeps up with the latest trends, or even put on traditional apparels such as kimono. So, do not be surprised if a doll owns her own shoes collections!
Doll footwear resembles real people’s collections, only usually in miniature size. They are made of cloth, rubber, even leather. Shoes are specially made for male dolls and female dolls, with laces, straps, in the form of slippers, sneakers, or boots. Tiny boots are made fore cute little dolls with curly hair wearing long dresses. Little boy dolls also look cute in shorts and boots, just as a real little boy ready for school would look like.
While durability and comfort are important to real people, such conditions are not as important to dolls. There are no sore foot to worry about. As long as the boots fit, that’s all that counts. Unless it is a collector item or for display purposes of a certain boot label, details are not so significant. Surely a doll can have different kinds of boots, from winter boots to horseback riding boots, from flat to high heel boots. A Barbie doll is sure to own them all, for being the most stylish doll one can think of at the present time. With the boot trend, will you let a doll be more stylish than you?
